Blazing Speed: Mohammad Amir Clocks Almost 145km/h in BPL 2023

In the Bangladesh Premier League 2023 (BPL), Pakistan’s left-arm pace sensation, Mohammad Amir, has turned heads with his exceptional swing and fiery pace. Amir, who made a comeback to professional cricket after a spot-fixing scandal, has rediscovered the form that once terrorized some of the world’s finest batting line-ups.

Unlike the early years of his career, where he was renowned for his swing and express pace, Amir struggled to consistently exceed 140km/h. However, he is now showcasing his vintage self in the ongoing BPL.

The 30-year-old speedster currently represents the Sylhet Strikers under the leadership of Mashrafe Mortaza. In a recent clash against Minister Group Dhaka, Amir astonished the cricketing world. His impressive figures of 2/19 in four overs played a pivotal role in Sylhet’s commanding victory by a substantial margin of 62 runs.

Sylhet Strikers had set a target of 202, and their bowling unit, led by Amir, efficiently limited Dhaka to a mere 139 runs, dismissing them with three balls to spare. Skipper Mortaza also made a significant contribution, securing figures of 2/14, while Amir’s compatriot, Imad Wasim, chipped in with 2/24.

Amir’s record in BPL 2023 has been outstanding. In his debut match against Chattogram Challengers, he claimed another pair of wickets, showcasing his prowess. His best figures in the tournament’s history, 6/17, were recorded in 2020.

Throughout BPL 2023, Amir has scalped six wickets in four matches, and his ability to swing the ball both ways has made him a go-to bowler for franchise teams during the opening phases of the game. Since Amir has been out of the national team for a while, he is eager to perform consistently well in leagues, hoping for a national team recall, especially with the recent changes at the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).

Apart from his bowling, Amir has made waves on social media for his spectacular catch in a game against Fortune Barishal, where he executed a breathtaking dive to dismiss the dangerous Shakib al Hasan.

Amir is not the only Pakistani cricketer shining in BPL 2023. Young wicket-keeper and top-order batsman Mohammad Haris is also playing alongside Amir for Sylhet. Moreover, several other Pakistani players, including Usman Khan, Iftikhar Ahmed, Wahab Riaz, Shoaib Malik, Sharjeel Khan, Haider Ali, Khuwaja Mohammad Nafay, and Azam Khan, are participating in the league.

Notably, Usman and Azam both scored centuries in a game between Chattogram Challengers and Khulna Tigers on January 9. Usman’s remarkable 103 earned him the Player of the Match award, securing a vital victory for Chattogram.

As of now, Sylhet Strikers sit atop the BPL 2023 points table, maintaining a flawless record in the four games they’ve played. Rangpur Riders, Fortune Barishal, MG Dhaka, and Chattogram Challengers each have two points. Meanwhile, defending champions Comilla Victorians and Khulna Tigers are yet to open their accounts after two games.

In the world of cricket, Amir’s resurgence is undoubtedly a sight to behold.
